A color model for video signals in which colors are specified according to their luminance (Y), their hue (U) and their saturation (V). These components can be derived from the Red-Green-Blue (RGB) colorspace in the following manner:
Y = 30% Red + 59% Green + 11% Blue
U = Red Y
V = Blue Y
This color model was designed to be backwards-compatible with black-and-white TV sets, so that two separate TV signals (one color, one monochrome) would not have to be broadcast.
